The Levemir® FlexPen® comes prefilled with 3 mL (300 units) of long-acting insulin analog Levemir (insulin detemir [rDNA origin] injection). The Levemir FlexPen provides you with a discreet, portable way to administer your insulin. It's about the size of a fountain pen and fits easily in your pocket or purse. Its large dose-dialing window makes administration easy with the ability to correct doses in 1-unit increments for up to 60 units of insulin. Levemir FlexPen uses NovoFine® disposable needles to help make injections more comfortable. Levemir Important Safety Information: People who are allergic to insulin or the other ingredients in Levemir should not take Levemir. Insulins, including Levemir, can cause low blood sugar. This is the most common side effect. The timing of when it occurs may not be the same for different insulin products. You must test your blood sugar levels while using an insulin, such as Levemir. Your doctor will tell you how often you should test your blood sugar level, and what to do if it is high or low. Do not change the insulin you are using without talking to your doctor. Doses of oral anti-diabetic medicines may also need to change. Your insulin needs may change due to a number of factors, such as illness, stress, medicines, or changes in diet or exercise routines. Levemir should not be diluted or mixed with any other insulin or solution. Before starting Levemir, tell your doctor about all your medical conditions including if you have liver or kidney problems, are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, are breast-feeding or planning to breast-feed, or take any other medicines. Do not start any new medicines until you know how they may affect your insulin dose. When you take Levemir, you may notice some side effects common to insulin. These include high blood sugar, reaction at the injection site (like redness, swelling, and itching), or allergic reactions. Other rare but serious side effects could occur. Talk to your doctor right away if you notice any side effects.
NovoLog Mix 70/30 Important Safety Information: You should know that NovoLog® Mix 70/30 (70% insulin aspart protamine suspension and 30% insulin aspart injection, [rDNA origin]) is different from other insulin mixtures because it works fast. So it’s important to take your dose within 15 minutes of a meal. Also, check your blood glucose regularly. Do not use NovoLog Mix 70/30 if your blood glucose is too low or if you are allergic to this medication. Low blood glucose is the most common side effect. If you have been taking another type of insulin, the time at which low blood glucose could occur may be different. Any change in insulin should be made cautiously and only under medical supervision.
NovoLog Important Safety Information: NovoLog® (insulin aspart [rDNA origin] injection) is different from regular human insulin. It works faster and will not work as long as regular human insulin. A NovoLog® injection should immediately be followed by a meal. Because of the short duration of action of NovoLog®, patients also require a longer-acting insulin to maintain adequate glucose control. Low blood glucose is the most common side effect of insulin therapy, including NovoLog®. Any change in insulin should be made cautiously and only under medical supervision. References: 1.
